Marcus Benecke

Marcus spent 4 years growing up in southern Germany, where his love of Europe, its history and languages began. He subsequently became conversant in French to add to his fluent German and graduated in History and Planning. One day he was asked by his mother to assist in the family business, European Mountain Treks, with a tour in the Bavarian and Austrian Alps.  Many hiking and canal boat tours in France, Switzerland, Corsica and Greece followed.  His wife was with him carrying their first child while they were guiding on a Pilgrims’ Way hike in central France in 2010.  He then took a break to help raise his family in a very scenic part of New Zealand.  Now he is arranging and guiding tours to Europe again with that inimitable Benecke style of knowledge and passion for the places, people, history and culture, and care and attention to the details.
